Happy semmelday!

...and right about now, everyone who's not a Swede is frowning and thinking to themselves "what the heck is a 'semla'?!"

Let me employ my trusty (... ;)) Wikipedia-backup and enlighten you!
THIS is a semla!
My grandma (born 1920) grew up back when a semla/fastlagsbulle was nothing but a sweeter bun with a raisin on top - and maybe dunked in milk.
My dad prefers them with cinnamon and in a bowl of hot milk. (They have to be home made, though - because the store bought buns dissolve in milk in like 2,5 seconds and let me tell you: that porridge is no treat...)
I love mine with coffee and with some bitter almond-essence and roughly chopped regular almonds in the paste. Just the way my mom used to make'em. Oh - and they have to have regular, unswetened REAL whipped cream. None of that faux, air whipped, tasteless (or too sugary) blechness that they serve sometimes.

In other words, It's Shrove Tuesday, and when DH gets home we're gonna dive headfirst into the last few episodes of Lost Girl season 1 - and eat semlor. Luxurious, spoiled Tuesdays. My fave!
